Sydney Sat Night Delight

After the Goat Island tour and the cruise around the bay we strolled down George Street and found a nice sidewalk cafe for a round of drinks…. and Steve was hungry too so we ate. We got back to the hotel about 5:00 and We said goodnight to Steve and Fran and went to our own room. Joan noticed me pacing the floor as I worked on the first blog post about our trip on that wonderful plane. She said “you’re still restless. You wanna go somewhere?”. I immediately replied yes lets go as the sun won’t set for another 3 hours.

So we walked down to the Circular Quay station which is where the train stops and also where almost all the ferries stop that go to different locations up and down the harbor. I thought it would be a great idea as we had no prearranged schedule for Sunday to journey on the farries on Sunday to explore the Harbour.

And of course we had to walk down and explore the restarants and parks along the cove and a picture of Joan with the Opera House. I just loved it so be prepared for many more pictures to come of the Opera House.

In the park by the Hyatt hotel they had a bunch of staging set up and we went to check it out. Turns out that this weekend is the celebration of Chinese New Year. So we stopped to enjoy the festivites with a Chinese quartet then followed by speechs of the many town dignataries including Welcome Ceremony by the representative of the Aborigines, the Lord Mayor of Sydney, and the Cultural Attache from China.

They have a Giant Paper Lanturn Dragon head that was surrounded by represntatives of the Year of the Monkey.

There was a dance of Chinese Drums and Warriors that followed and was very cool to observe.

It was capped by the dance of the Lions to great the New Year.

We then turned our eyes to the harbour and the Opera House for some fireworks to close the evening.

Okay Sydney……..You absolutely WOW’D me on our first day here. How can you keep up with this incredible introduction. G’Night day 1 of our journey
