Contrary to all of our beliefs, Steve and Fran did not miss their tour. In our haste to assume they were on exactly the same tour, we never actually compared itineraries nor confirmation tickets. They were also going to Hell’s Gate, but instead of the Maori Village experience, they went for a wonderful cruise around the lake on a beautiful catamaran.

First up for them was Hell’s Gate and their pictures sow they had an equally great time there.

What was up next made all of us jealous in not choosing. They were taken to shores of the lake high in the mountains where they were greated by an all female crew for a sail around the lake. The sky was blue, the wind was perfect and air warm and soft. What a great way to relax and enjoy the beauty that is New Zealand. Fran even assisted in hauling up sails.

As is our tradition, we always meet up twice a day on the cruise ship. at 5:00 on the aft for cocktails to enjoy the ship leaving port, and dinner at 8:00. We have found a nice table that holds the group of 9 with a wonderful server from the phillipines named Erwin. Tonight as we do so, we all listen in jealous joy as Steve and Fran share their adventure aboard this sailboat and what a completely marvelous time they had.

And so as the ship slowly leaves Tauranga, we toast to friends and family, to the great day we had in our first stop in New Zealand, and to the great fortune to be sharing this adventure together.
